After not having boathouse facilities on the river front for some time, the group decided to extend headquarters on Walton Road to provide storage for boats and equipment as well as housing workshop and new shower facilities. In the Summer of 2010 phase one was completed with the opening taking place on the 18th September. The following text has been taken from the November 2010 edition of the Surrey Scout.
“On Saturday 18th September, years of hard work and fundraising paid off for the 1st Molesey (Jaguar) Sea Scout group as their new boathouse extension was unveiled to parents and supporters for the first time. After an afternoon of family boating and river side activities, members of the group returned to the boathouse where a BBQwas sizzling away and everyone was waiting in anticipation for the ribbon to be cut.
“A Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer scout were invited to open the much needed new facilities, a project that the young people have put lots of hard work in to through various fundraising events over the past few years.
“The group would very much like to thank everyone who has contributed to the project, particularly sponsors and anyone else who has given their time.
“With the new facilities, the group hopes to introduce more young people to water activities, and increase the number of exciting opportunities Scouting has to offer.”
