On the 1st August 2009, 10 scouts and 3 leaders from 1st Molesey travelled to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham for a week long celebratory Sea Scout Jamboree.
Being a Sea Scout Jamboree, the National Water sports centre was an ideal place to hold the camp. The two kilometre rowing lake was home to most of the week’s water activities which commenced on Sunday morning. These included windsurfing, sailing, power boating and many others. Two of the more extreme activities available were water skiing and white-water rafting. The water skiing took place on the water sports centre’s purpose built lake while the rafting had exclusive use of the centre’s Olympic white water course.
After a tiring day on the water we returned to the campsite to eat supper and get ready for the themed evening entertainment. Each night there was a prize for the best fancy dress and our inflatable shark took the Oscar on ‘Movie stars’ night! The evening entertainment was a great opportunity to meet scouts from different parts of the country and rest of the world. Sea Scout groups from as far away as Australia and the USA were in attendance.
To top off, what had already been an amazing Jamboree, the ending ceremony featured a spectacular firework display. I don’t think Sea Scout 100 will be a camp anyone will ever forget.
