For those aged 8 – 10½ years, the cub pack is active, varied and exciting activities means fun for all.
Cub Scouts are young people usually aged 8 to 10½ years although a cub may join at 7½ years and stay within the section up until their 11th birthday if space permits. In their time at cubs, young people will work towards a number of badges and awards including a scheme of activity badges ranging from Emergency Aid to Local Knowledge, providing important skills useful in later life. As always, fun is the focus and so there are also badges for entertaining, martial arts and street sports. In the summer months, cubs may join the scouts on Saturday afternoons for water activities including kayaking, rowing and sailing. Our leaders are qualified instructors in these areas meaning that young people are able to have fun and learn new skills in a friendly, supportive and safe environment.
Some high points of the annual cub program are District camp, where cubs join with other packs in the Esher district for a weekend of activities. Some of the favourites from this year’s event included archery, climbing, shooting, go-carting, water rockets and orienteering. On top of this, there are numerous competitions that are greatly enjoyed by all such as the District Sports Day, Cross-Country Run, Sausage Sizzle and Handicraft Competition.
