Scouts

The Scout troop offers a virtually unlimited array of outdoor opportunities for boys and girls aged 10½ to 14.

Our popular scout troop meets on Tuesday evenings all year round and on Saturdays in summer, at the Hurst park slipway for an afternoon of varied water activities. We have exclusive access to our own fleet of kayaks, canoes, sailing dinghys and powered craft, meaning scouts are able to participate in a wide variety of on-the-water activities and gain the skills necessary to compete BCU/RYA nationally recognised awards in this area.

Although there is a strong focus on water activities, the troop also learn the more ‘traditional’ scouting skills such as navigation, climbing, backwoods cooking, shooting and first aid. Many of these skills are put into practice at various county and district organised events such as the District Night Hike, where teams compete head-to-head to navigate around a set route by visiting checkpoints and completing ‘incidents’ after sun has set. The focus is firmly on fun and judging by what our current scouts have said about the programme, it looks as if they have lots of it!
